When a child loses someone close to them through murder, violence or a tragic road incident, the emotional impact can be overwhelming. At OLLY (Our Lost Love Years), we understand how important it is for young people to have the right support in these heartbreaking moments.
That’s why we’ve developed two special books, with support from Merseyside Police, to help children understand and talk about their feelings after the loss of a loved one. These books have been endorsed by Family Liaison Officers and the Serious Crime Squad, and are being used across Merseyside to provide a safe, age-appropriate way to process grief.
OLLY – The Journey
- A gentle and heartfelt storybook designed to help children understand the difficult emotions they may feel after a sudden or violent loss.
- Written with compassion by those who truly understand bereavement.
- Follows Olly’s journey through grief after the loss of a loved one.
- Helps children feel less alone and more able to talk about what’s happened.
- Suitable for home, school or professional support settings.
Olly & Friends: Your Memories
- A companion activity book that encourages children to reflect on and remember their loved one in a creative, comforting way.
- Filled with prompts to write, draw and explore emotions safely.
- Helps preserve memories in a positive, lasting format.
- A useful tool for family liaison officers, schools and support workers.
- Encourages discussion and healing through creativity.
We believe these books can make a real difference to families navigating the unimaginable. Whether used in school libraries, pastoral support, or offered to families directly, they’re a simple but powerful way to let a child know: you are not alone.
At OLLY, we’re looking to work closely with schools and staff across Liverpool and the Wirral, offering resources and building lasting partnerships to support children affected by violent crime or culpable road death.
